And since this is our last Bootie Top 10 of the year, we thought we'd share in the holiday spirit and double it up for you, including a few older tracks from 2008 that just narrowly missed the cut the first time around. voted "Best Dance Club" in the Readers Poll of the San
Francisco Bay Guardian's BEST OF THE BAY 2006!
The Guardian writes: "Dancing to a catchy song at a club just isn't enough for our readers. They want to dance to two catchy songs — at the same time. Such is the alluring magic of mashups, and of club Bootie at DNA Lounge ... Bootie loves to fuck with pop culture, two songs at a time, every second Friday of the month." You can read more here. So what's a mashup? What's a bootleg? It's pretty much all the same. Also known as "bastard pop," a bootleg is a song that's "mashed-up." Usually, this means the vocal track of one song is mixed over the instrumentation of another. Using audio editing software, DJs and mashup artists combine different artists and musical genres to create new and unique songs that are often greater than the sum of their parts. Imagine Michael Jackson rocking out with Nirvana, Britney Spears singing with Daft Punk, Cher fronting AC/DC, or Ludacris rapping with Depeche Mode. Can't imagine that? Then get your ass to Bootie to hear for yourself! Is
this legal? So
where can I get these mashups? Or, just come to Bootie and get one of our mashup mix CDs, which we give away for free every month! FEEDBACK If you got feedback or suggestions for Bootie, drop us an e-mail: bootie@bootiesf.com
